Courtney-StewartCourtney Stewart is originally from Charlotte and received training at the Charlotte School of Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theater, and the San Francisco Ballet School. She joined San Francisco Ballet in 2002 and was promoted to soloist in 2010. Courtney has danced numerous soloist and principal roles in works by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, John Neumeier and William Forsythe, and has originated roles in world premieres by Mark Morris, Paul Taylor, Lar Lubovitch, Christopher Wheeldon, and Val Caniparoli. She has also performed all over the US, including Lincoln Center and Kennedy Center, as well as internationally in London, Paris, Athens, Copenhagen, and China. Courtney holds a B.A. in Performing Arts from St. Mary’s College, and has been a guest artist at St. Mary’s, Stanford University, and Minnesota Dance Theater. She has taught classical and contemporary ballet and repertoire at the Charlotte Ballet Academy, Piedmont School of Music and Dance, Dance Davidson, and the Charlotte School of Ballet, and has been a guest master teacher at numerous schools in NC.
Courtney has recently relocated to the Winston-Salem area where she lives with her husband, Matt.
